Nollywood actress and political appointee Laide Bakare has stirred controversy after revealing that she personally introduced her teenage daughter, Simisola, to clubbing and alcohol at the age of 17.
In an interview with content creator Mr Lilgaga, which circulated online on Friday, Laide explained that her daughter’s first experience with nightlife and alcohol came under her supervision.
“I introduced my daughter to clubbing, alcohol at 17. I took my daughter to the club for the first time at 17, even her first alcohol was from me at 17,” she said.
Public Reactions
The statement has triggered mixed reactions on social media. Some Nigerians questioned her parenting approach, while others felt she was being transparent about her choices.

Ola Psalm went further, urging authorities to examine whether introducing alcohol at 17 is legal: “Nigeria police, Lagos State government, Osun State government – is this right and legal in our country at 17?”
Others, however, viewed it as a way of building trust between mother and daughter.
Simisola’s Birthday and Public Image
The actress recently marked Simisola’s 17th birthday with a party attended by family and friends. Social media posts from the event showed the teenager in a strapless gown, dancing with peers. While some fans admired her look, others felt she appeared “too mature” for her age.
One fan commented: “17 and she is looking 22, wow. Very big. Happy birthday dear.”
Another added: “I think she’s overly dressed! This kid… dress kids like kids.”
