“Stop trying to revive the girl” – Mary Remmy Njoku Urges Men to Support Partners Battling Postpartum Depression

Mary Njoku

Nollywood actress Mary Remmy Njoku has called on men to show greater understanding and support to their partners going through postpartum depression, urging them to embrace the physical and emotional changes that come with motherhood and to love their wives for who they are becoming.

Sharing her thoughts on Instagram, Njoku explained that postpartum depression often stems from a deep emotional transition, as many women struggle with losing their pre-pregnancy identity while adjusting to life as mothers.

She wrote:

“Postpartum depression is mourning the death of the girl you once were, and learning to embrace the birth of the woman you are becoming.

Motherhood is as real as it gets. So, to truly love the mother of your children, stop trying to revive the girl she once was. She is gone. Instead, get to know the woman she has become.

So, my dear men, look at the bright side: you get to love ‘different’ women, at different stages of your marriage or relationship. Brothers! Nature has given variety all along. Enjoy!!”

Her message has resonated deeply with many online, sparking conversations about the importance of emotional support and understanding the mental health struggles that some women face after childbirth.
