Former presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the 2023 general elections, Prince Adewole Adebayo, has officially announced his intention to contest for the Nigerian presidency again in 2027.
Adebayo made the disclosure on Tuesday during an interview on Prime Time, a programme on Arise Television, where he confirmed that his party had been informed of his decision.
“I have informed my party, the SDP, that I will be running for the presidency again in 2027, and everyone in my party knows that I’m contesting again,” he stated.
The SDP chieftain added that he is currently working closely with party members to strengthen internal structures and attract new members, ensuring the party remains credible and united ahead of the next general elections.
“I am working with the party to strengthen it, invite more people into the party, and improve the quality of the processes within the party to manage the challenges of cultural clashes because of the new people coming in. We want to make sure the party does not disappoint Nigerians,” he said.
Adebayo further emphasized the importance of facing challenges head-on, noting that overcoming obstacles ultimately strengthens leadership and vision.
“The best prayer that can be offered is for the road to be rough because when your road is rough, you will enjoy and appreciate the destination when you get there. What we are trying to do is not to fake anything but to deal with issues — whether external or internal,” he added.
Adebayo, a lawyer and philanthropist, was the SDP’s presidential flag bearer in the 2023 elections, where he ran on a platform of transparency, reform, and national unity. His renewed ambition sets the stage for an early start to the 2027 presidential race.
