The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has warned that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) risks total collapse if its governors continue to sideline him from major party decisions.
Speaking during his monthly media parley in Abuja, Wike expressed frustration at being excluded from key consultations within the party despite his long-standing role and influence.
“Have I not said it before now that the booby trap you are setting will consume you? The way these present governors are doing, they will bury this party,” he said.
Wike questioned the rationale behind his exclusion from PDP activities, stressing that his position as FCT Minister should not diminish his relevance within the party.
“I am the FCT Minister. Are you telling me that because I am not a governor, you will hold a PDP stakeholders’ meeting and exclude me, and then expect the party to survive?” he asked.
He also dismissed claims that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) was responsible for the PDP’s internal crisis, insisting that the party’s challenges were self-inflicted.
“All these talks about APC are rubbish. Is it APC that makes you take wrong decisions? You mean two or three people because they are governors and receive large allocations will go and decide, and you tell me to follow? Follow who?” Wike said.
Turning to the party’s upcoming national convention, the minister criticised the PDP leadership for failing to complete the necessary groundwork.
“If they do the right thing, will anybody stall the convention? They have not done the congresses and other things that should be in place,” he noted.
Wike’s remarks come as the PDP prepares for its national convention, scheduled to hold on November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State, amid ongoing internal wrangling and high-profile defections.
