EFCC arrested me for not paying tax’ – Oladips

Popular Nigerian rapper Oladipupo Olabode Oladimeji, better known as Oladips, has opened up about his arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), revealing that he was detained for failing to pay tax.

Speaking on Hip TV, the rapper recounted his experience in EFCC custody, clarifying that he was not involved in any fraudulent activity.

CREEBHILLS had reported that EFCC operatives invaded Oladips’ estate in November 2024, arresting him and several other residents around 3 a.m. over alleged fraud.

According to Oladips, the situation escalated unexpectedly:

“Nigeria just happened to me because it was just a normal night and EFCC entered my estate. I mean it’s a big estate and they were just going from house to house arresting people. I was inside my house. It was about 3am.

I saw it inside the estate group that EFCC were inside. I promise you, I was on my bed pressing phone because it’s none of my business. I didn’t run because I don’t do fraud, I don’t do Yahoo. Na person wey do fraud go dey run.”

He continued:

“The next thing, they broke my kitchen door and entered my house and asked for my phone and laptop. I’m only using two phones, I don’t have a laptop. So they collected my phones, did their investigation and realised that I don’t do fraud. When they couldn’t find anything to hold me down, one of their oga came out and asked if I pay tax. That’s how they locked me up for not paying tax.”

Oladips described the incident as a shocking and frustrating experience, adding that he hopes to raise awareness about the need for fair treatment during law enforcement operations.
