Kingsley Moghalu Refutes Reports Naming Him as Labour Party Candidate in Anambra Governorship Election

Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Kingsley Moghalu, has denied claims identifying him as the Labour Party (LP) candidate in the recently concluded Anambra State governorship election held on November 8, 2025.

In a statement posted on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday, Moghalu expressed dismay over several misleading media reports that wrongly portrayed him as the LP flag bearer — with some even using his photograph.

“I am distressed to have seen several news reports in newspapers and other media on the recently held Anambra State governorship election in Nigeria, citing ‘Kingsley Moghalu’ as the candidate of Labour Party @NgLabour in this election, with some running my photograph along with their reports,” he wrote.

Describing the publications as “false” and “lazy reporting,” Moghalu clarified that journalists had mistaken him for Chief George Moghalu, who actually contested under the Labour Party platform.

He emphasized that he is not a member of any political party and did not participate in the Anambra governorship race.

“For the avoidance of doubt, I am not a member of any political party in Nigeria. I was not a candidate in the Anambra State gubernatorial election held on November 8, 2025,” he stated.

“I resigned from participation in partisan politics in Nigeria in September 2022, ahead of the 2023 presidential election. I was the presidential candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) in the 2019 presidential election.”

Moghalu urged media houses that circulated the misleading stories to issue prompt corrections and retractions, warning against misinformation that could harm public trust.

Meanwhile, the actual Labour Party candidate, George Moghalu, contested against incumbent Governor Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), and Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) results announced by the Returning Officer, Prof. Edoba Omoregie, Soludo secured a landslide victory, winning all Local Government Areas with 422,664 votes.
