Prominent activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju and political commentator Joe Igbokwe have traded words online following the viral confrontation between Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike and a Naval officer in Abuja.
The incident, which was captured in a video circulating on social media, showed Wike confronting a soldier allegedly preventing him from accessing a disputed piece of land. The footage quickly divided public opinion — with some Nigerians backing the military officer’s stance, while others supported the minister’s actions.
Reacting to the controversy, Joe Igbokwe took to Facebook to call for the dismissal of the officer, questioning the soldier’s authority in the matter.
However, Deji Adeyanju responded sharply in a counter post, accusing Igbokwe of “hustling for political appointments.”
“Dear Joe Igbokwe, appointment is finished already. Stop the hustling except you want to replace this cameraman,” Adeyanju wrote. “Doing media aide in old age is actually crazy. Old data boys.”
In a heated exchange that followed in the comments section, Igbokwe fired back, insisting he was not seeking any appointment and warning Adeyanju to show respect.
“Deji, you do not know me and I do not know you,” Igbokwe replied. “I have been a well-made man for over 30 years. I started activism in the 1980s. I am not looking for anything from anybody. I am not your mate.”
He further urged Adeyanju to research his background, stating that his “record and books speak for themselves.”
The online spat adds another layer to the ongoing debate over Wike’s leadership style and his frequent clashes with law enforcement and city officials since assuming office as FCT Minister.
