Sophia Momodu, mother of Davido’s first daughter, Imade, has publicly stated that she has not received child support from the singer in the past five years.
In a detailed statement released on Wednesday, the entrepreneur said she was forced to speak out after waking up to “targeted posts” that painted her daughter in a negative light.
Momodu said her initial reaction was emotional, but as “a fiercely protective mother,” she felt compelled to correct what she described as misleading online narratives. She was recently criticised for allegedly stopping Imade from attending Davido’s birthday celebration — a claim she strongly denies.
According to her, Imade is “happy, healthy, and well-rounded,” and anyone who encounters the child can confirm this. She emphasized that she has been her daughter’s primary caregiver for the past five years, handling all expenses except school fees.
She revealed that for the last three years, it has been Davido’s father — Imade’s paternal grandfather — who has consistently paid the school fees, not the singer himself.
“I have not received child support from her father, but our child knows no lack. She is growing in a healthy environment and is very happy,” she stated.
Sophia also disclosed that she recently made the decision to waive all outstanding child support arrears and give up any future financial claims. She said the choice was mutually agreed upon and leaves her entirely responsible for Imade’s welfare.
Despite the public controversies, Momodu stressed that she has never denied Davido access to their daughter. She insisted that her only priority is the child’s safety, routine, and emotional stability.
“I am grateful that my daughter has a loving relationship with both parents,” she added.
She concluded by appealing to the public to keep her child out of online drama and stop spreading false narratives. She urged fans and observers to focus their energy on more meaningful and constructive matters.
