Wilfred Ndidi will lead the Super Eagles at the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, following the retirement of long-serving captain William Troost-Ekong, DAILY POST reports.
Troost-Ekong officially announced his exit from international football on Thursday, paving the way for Ndidi to take up the armband. The Leicester City midfielder — who captained Nigeria during the 2026 FIFA World Cup playoffs in Morocco last month — will now serve as the team’s substantive captain at the AFCON.
Ndidi and winger Moses Simon are currently the most senior players in the squad. Simon is expected to be confirmed as vice-captain.
The 27-year-old midfielder, who made his Super Eagles debut in August 2015, has earned 71 caps for the national team. He missed the delayed 2023 AFCON in Côte d’Ivoire due to injury.
