Comedian Klint Da Drunk has revealed that his early ambition to become a musician ended abruptly after witnessing a performance by legendary singer Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba or 2Face, during their days at the Institute of Management Technology (IMT), Enugu.
Speaking in an interview with Naija FM, Klint explained that he was actively pursuing music until a single moment with 2Baba changed his direction completely.
“I used to be a musician until 2Face got admitted to my school, IMT. One day when he got on stage to perform at an event, I left the hall,” he said.
According to him, the performance was so overwhelming that he felt there was no point trying to compete.
“The organisers begged me to wait and perform after him. I agreed, but after hearing him sing just two lines, I went home. I didn’t know that my style and 2Face’s style were different. If I had known, I would have continued making music. But thank God I didn’t continue. I like where I am.”
Before fully embracing comedy, Klint did make strides in music. He featured in rapper Mr Raw’s hit track Obodo and co-founded a music group with him. The group even finished second in the 2002 Star Quest talent show, losing to KC Presh.
His eventual switch to comedy opened new doors, leading him into Nollywood. Klint has since appeared in several films, including Men On The Run, Madam 10/10, Fast Cash and Lost Kingdom.
2Baba, who started his career at IMT as part of the Plantashun Boiz before going solo, went on to become one of Africa’s most celebrated music icons with global hits such as African Queen and numerous international awards.
