South African pop star Tyla has found herself at the centre of online controversy after being accused of endorsing a harsh post directed at American rap icon Nicki Minaj.
The drama erupted on X after Tyla was linked to a post shared by a Nicki Minaj fan account, which criticised the rapper’s recent public behaviour and urged her to step away from the spotlight.
The post read in part:
“Keep that album. Delete social media and hide yourself from the public. Just go away and never come back. You’re done… You are too mentally insane to be in the public eye anymore.”
Tyla was accused of supporting the message after it appeared she had retweeted the post. Although the repost was later deleted, screenshots circulated widely, triggering backlash and speculation about her intentions.
The situation drew even more attention due to Tyla’s friendly association with Cardi B, Nicki Minaj’s longtime rival, with some social media users suggesting the move was a subtle dig rather than an accident.
Nicki Minaj has not publicly reacted to the incident, but Tyla addressed the backlash in a light-hearted manner. Responding with humour, she suggested the repost was unintentional.
“In trouble on the net again. #everybodymakesmistakes #everybodyhasthosedays #hacked,” she wrote, quoting lyrics from Hannah Montana’s Nobody’s Perfect.
Her response quickly went viral, attracting hundreds of thousands of likes and mixed reactions. While some critics remained sceptical, many fans praised Tyla for choosing humour over confrontation and refusing to escalate the situation.
