Popular cleric Chukwuemeka Cyril Ohanaemere, widely known as Pastor Odumeje, has sparked mixed reactions online after stating that he does not celebrate Christmas but observes what he calls “Christmarity.”
In a video making the rounds on social media, the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church leader explained that “Christmarity” represents living a Christ-like lifestyle rather than engaging in the traditional celebration of Christmas.
“I’m not celebrating Christmas. I am celebrating Christmarity which is Christ-like,” Odumeje said.
According to him, the term Christmas sounds like holding a church mass, while Christmarity better reflects enjoyment and living in a “Christy” manner. While trying to further explain the distinction in English, the pastor amusingly switched to Igbo, joking that he would stop talking to avoid biting his tongue.
The remarks have since generated conversations online, with many social media users reacting to his unconventional interpretation of the festive season.
