The United States has reportedly intensified its counterterrorism efforts in Nigeria, turning its attention to the Sambisa Forest following recent airstrikes against ISIS-linked terrorists in Sokoto State.
According to top security analyst Brant Philip, the U.S. is currently conducting intelligence and surveillance operations across the vast Sambisa Forest area in Borno State.
Philip disclosed this in a post on X, where he shared flight-tracking data showing a Gulfstream V aircraft flying over parts of Borno State. He claimed the operation is aimed at gathering intelligence on the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).
ISWAP is known to operate primarily in Nigeria’s North-East and the Lake Chad Basin, where it has carried out numerous attacks over the years.
The latest development suggests a possible expansion of U.S. counterterrorism involvement in Nigeria following the confirmed Christmas Day strikes in Sokoto.
