Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has called on Nigerians to stand firm against what he described as enemies of the nation by making effective use of their Permanent Voters Cards, PVCs.
Obi made the appeal on Wednesday during his official defection from the Labour Party to the African Democratic Congress, ADC.
He warned that Nigerians must not allow individuals who once benefited from the country’s democratic system to undermine it for personal interests.
“Those who benefited from our democracy sometime ago have now become accessories to destroying our democracy and gangsterism. We cannot allow this to happen,” peter Obi said.
The former Anambra State governor stressed the need for transparency and accountability ahead of the next general elections, noting that Nigerians have a window of opportunity to scrutinize those seeking public office.
“We have one year now to determine who went to school and who didn’t go to school. We have one year now for people to tell us the school they attended and when they left school,” he stated.
Peter Obi further emphasized that the verification process should be carried out before the elections to avoid post-election legal battles.
“We don’t want it to be something we go to court after election and they say it’s pre-election matter. We have pre-election situation now to verify everybody who wants to contest the election for Nigeria, and we must follow them,” he added.
