A member of Anthony Joshua’s family has claimed that the former heavyweight boxing champion is set to retire from the sport following a recent tragic incident.
Joshua was involved in a fatal road accident in Nigeria last Monday after his vehicle reportedly collided with a stationary truck on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Makun.
The 36-year-old boxer escaped with minor injuries, but two of his close friends and team members, Sina Ghami and Latif “Latz” Ayodele, lost their lives at the scene.
Their funeral prayers were held at a mosque in London on Sunday, January 4, with Joshua in attendance to pay his final respects.
The incident occurred just 10 days after Joshua’s last fight, where he knocked out Jake Paul in Miami on December 19.
As of now, Anthony Joshua has not made any public statement regarding his future in boxing. His promoter, Eddie Hearn, and Matchroom Boxing have also remained silent beyond an initial statement released on the night of the accident.
