Manchester City have launched a move to sign Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi and are reportedly close to agreeing personal terms with the England international.
Talks are ongoing between City and Crystal Palace over a potential transfer fee, with the South London club said to be holding out for around £40 million. Guehi has just six months remaining on his current contract, meaning he could leave as a free agent in the summer.
Despite that, City are understood to have tabled a substantial offer for the 25-year-old defender, one that would surpass any signing-on package he might receive if he waited until the end of the season.
Palace manager Oliver Glasner had previously blocked a late deadline-day move to Liverpool last summer but is now reportedly open to a January sale. Several European heavyweights, including Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, have also expressed interest in Guehi.
Liverpool had come close to securing his signature last year, with a £35 million deal nearly completed. The defender was even undergoing a medical on deadline day before Palace ultimately halted the transfer.
