Olympic track star Sha’Carri Richardson has found herself at the centre of controversy after being arrested in Florida over allegations of dangerous driving.
According to TMZ, the 25-year-old sprinter was taken into custody on Thursday in the Orlando area by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities allege that Richardson was driving at an extremely high speed, reportedly clocked at 100 miles per hour or more.
Officials further claimed that the athlete was tailgating other motorists and weaving across lanes in an attempt to overtake traffic, prompting officers to stop and arrest her. She was subsequently charged with excessive speeding.
As of the time of reporting, Richardson remains in custody and is being held on a $500 bond.
The arrest marks the second time in recent months that the world-class sprinter has faced legal issues. Last summer, Richardson was arrested following an altercation involving her boyfriend and fellow track athlete, Christian Coleman. That incident has since been resolved.
However, the current situation is still unfolding, with reports indicating that her mugshot has already been released as authorities continue to process the case.
