2027: I’m not running for president now – El-Rufai

El-Rufai

Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has said he is not contesting for president ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during an interview on Arise TV on Friday, El-Rufai stated that he has not taken any decision to seek Nigeria’s highest office.

“I have said this over and over, I’m not a candidate for any office. I would have been in Egypt pursuing my PhD, but because I contributed to putting this government in place, I am still here to correct the decision,” he said.

When asked directly whether he would run for president in 2027, he responded, “For now, I am not running.”

He, however, acknowledged the unpredictable nature of politics.

“You never say never in politics,” he said.

El-Rufai explained that circumstances could shift if party leaders call on him to step forward.

“But the decision to run for president has not been made by me,” he added.

The former governor also voiced concerns about the state of the nation, describing Nigeria as facing serious challenges.
