EPL: Rodri Faces Possible Ban Over Post-Match Comments

Rodri

Manchester City midfielder Rodri could face disciplinary action after being charged with misconduct by the The Football Association (FA).

The charge follows comments Rodri made after City’s 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur on February 1. Speaking after the match, the midfielder expressed frustration with officiating decisions and said, “The referees have to be neutral.”

The remark was interpreted as implying bias, prompting calls for action. According to reports by the UK Mirror, referees have urged the FA to respond firmly. The Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) is also said to be pushing for stronger measures to ensure players show respect toward match officials.

In a statement outlining the charge, the FA said: “It’s alleged that the midfielder acted in an improper manner during a post-match media interview by making comments that imply bias and/or question the integrity of a match official and/or match officials, contrary to FA Rule 3.1.

“Rodri has until Wednesday 18 February to provide a response.”

Any suspension could prove costly for Manchester City as they continue their pursuit of league leaders Arsenal in the title race.
