‘Tehran’ Co-Creator Dana Eden Found Dead in Athens Hotel During Filming

Dana Eden, the co-creator and executive producer of the Israeli spy drama Tehran, has been found dead in a hotel room in Athens while overseeing production of the show’s fourth season.

The 52-year-old was discovered by her brother after she reportedly failed to respond to his messages. Greek authorities have launched an investigation, and an autopsy is expected. Local media reports indicate there is currently no evidence of foul play.

A statement issued by Dana & Shula Productions, the company she co-owned, expressed shock and sorrow over her passing, describing her as a respected creator with an international reputation. The company also rejected online speculation suggesting criminal or politically motivated circumstances, calling such claims “baseless” and urging the public to avoid spreading unverified theories.

The series, which streams on Apple TV+, won an International Emmy Award in 2021 for Best Drama Series. Its later seasons featured acclaimed actors Glenn Close and Hugh Laurie.

Production for the fourth season is currently underway in Greece, with Athens serving as a stand-in location for Tehran due to travel restrictions preventing Israelis from filming in Iran. Police are reviewing security footage and speaking with hotel staff as part of their inquiry.

The Israel Broadcasting Corporation also paid tribute, describing Dana Eden as a central figure in some of the country’s most influential television productions. Filming of the new season is expected to continue despite her passing.
