Founder and Chairman of Chocolate City Entertainment Group, Audu Maikori, has alleged that former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai persecuted him over a tweet he later admitted was inaccurate and subsequently deleted.
Maikori made the claim on Monday while speaking on Prime Time, a programme on Arise Television, where he revisited events that led to his arrest several years ago.
Drawing a distinction between lawful prosecution and persecution, Maikori insisted that his experience fell into the latter category.
“El-Rufai persecuted me for a wrong tweet I acknowledged and took down. He organised for me to be abducted,” Maikori alleged.
According to him, although he accepted responsibility for sharing incorrect information, the Kaduna State government’s response at the time was excessive and disproportionate.
“A governor shouldn’t do the job of the police. My driver confessed he had lied about the information he gave me,” he said.
Maikori further claimed that after he was released by the police, there were attempts to associate him with unrelated violent incidents.
“I was let go by the police, and the next weekend, El-Rufai was trying to link my tweet with the possible death of 7 people,” he stated.
The allegations add to ongoing political tensions surrounding El-Rufai, who has been at the centre of legal and security-related controversies in recent weeks.
As of the time of this report, El-Rufai has not publicly responded to Maikori’s latest claims.
“What I went through with El-Rufai was persecution… they (Police) released me and then he (Nasir El-Rufai) came back and organised for me to be abducted.”
