Nollywood actress Nkechi Blessing Sunday has opened up about how she secured a role in the upcoming Nollywood film The Secret Lives of Baba Segi’s Wives.
The announcement came after filmmaker Mo Abudu unveiled the movie’s cast on her Instagram page on Monday. The lineup features several notable Nollywood stars, including Faithia Williams, Nancy Isime, Uzor Arukwe, Mike Ezuruonye, Blessing Obasi, and Nkechi Blessing herself.
Reacting to the news on her Instagram page, the actress shared an emotional message about receiving the call that eventually landed her the role.
According to her, the moment felt surreal, especially considering the years she has spent working in the Nigerian film industry.
She wrote that she believes everything happens at the right time, adding that after years of persistence, she finally feels she is reaching the top.
“I mean me? A cast in the most anticipated movie of the year? I mean, a Mo Abudu production? Somebody pinch me,” she wrote.
“When I got this call to come in for a reading, I thought they had dialed a wrong number. I couldn’t continue my sleep. I woke up earlier than usual so I wouldn’t be late.”
She explained that when she arrived for the reading session, she struggled to remain calm despite feeling overwhelmed with excitement.
“Then I walked into that room… I tried to maintain composure, but inside I wanted to scream.”
The actress also used the moment to address critics who had previously doubted her career.
“To you all who called me a failed actress at every opportunity, this year 2026 you will eat your words and drink your tears,” she said.
“As long as God is still seated on the throne of mercy, I, Nkechi Blessing Sunday, will continue to excel, prosper, and walk into every room full of opportunities.”
Nkechi also shared her experience meeting Mo Abudu, describing the media entrepreneur as welcoming, kind, and warm during their interaction.
The film The Secret Lives of Baba Segi’s Wives is based on the 2010 novel written by Nigerian author Lola Shoneyin.
The story explores the dynamics of a polygamous household, highlighting the rivalries, secrets, and complex relationships among the wives.
The movie is being produced by EbonyLife Films in partnership with Genesis Group, Nile Media Entertainment Group, and Silverbird Group.
Daniel Oriahi will direct, with a screenplay by Adze Ugah.
The highly anticipated film is scheduled for a wide cinema release in December 2026 across Nigeria and international markets.
