Yusuf Buhari, son of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, has declared his intention to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives in the 2027 general elections.
The development was confirmed by Bashir Ahmad, who disclosed that the decision followed consultations with stakeholders.
According to him, Yusuf Buhari has informed party members of his plan to run for the Sandamu-Daura-Mai Adua federal constituency under the All Progressives Congress.
Formal Declaration
In a letter dated April 3, Yusuf Buhari stated that his decision to enter the race is driven by a desire to contribute to leadership and development within his constituency.
“I am extremely delighted to inform you of my intention to contest for this position, as I aim to contribute to good leadership and bring development to our people,” he wrote.
He also appealed to stakeholders for support, noting that their backing would be crucial to achieving his goals.
Political Backing
The announcement follows discussions among party members in Sandamu Local Government Area of Katsina State, where support for his potential candidacy was reportedly expressed.
The meeting included party officials and stakeholders who deliberated on preparations ahead of the 2027 elections.
First Major Political Step
Yusuf Buhari has largely remained out of the political spotlight since his father left office in 2023. This declaration marks his first known move into elective politics.
His entry into the race is expected to attract attention, given his background, as political activity gradually builds toward the 2027 general elections in Nigeria.
