BBNaija star and Nollywood actor Pere Egbi has raised an alarm after discovering that his film The Silent Intruder is currently streaming on Tubi without his knowledge or approval.
The actor took to X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, expressing shock at the development. According to him, he stumbled on the film while trying to relax at home, only to find what he described as the exact same version that was released in Nigerian cinemas.
“I spent millions on this project, so how exactly does my movie end up on Tubi without my knowledge or consent?” he wrote, directly calling out FilmOne Entertainment.
The Silent Intruder, a Nigerian drama thriller, premiered in cinemas on February 9, 2024. Directed by Uyoyou Adia, the movie features a strong cast including Pere Egbi himself, alongside Uche Montana, Venita Akpofure, and Lucy Ameh.
The storyline centers on Catherine Philips, a woman who seeks therapy to salvage her troubled marriage, only to uncover a disturbing obsession that spirals into danger. Pere plays the role of Zaki Bond, delivering one of the film’s central performances while also serving as its executive producer.
The movie was originally distributed in cinemas by FilmOne Entertainment, making Pere’s claims particularly sensitive, as questions now arise around licensing, distribution rights, and how the film made its way onto a global streaming platform like Tubi.
As of now, there has been no official response from either Tubi or FilmOne Entertainment regarding the situation. However, the incident has sparked conversations within the Nigerian film industry about intellectual property protection and transparency in distribution agreements.
For Pere Egbi, the message is clear: creators must retain control over their work, especially after investing heavily in production.
