“You leave Nigeria and go to Mecca to lick rock” — 9ice Sparks Debate Over Religion and National Development

“I Vomited Blood for Six Months” – Singer 9ice Opens Up on Spiritual Attack

Nigerian singer 9ice has stirred controversy after questioning the impact of religion and constant prayers on Nigeria’s development.

Speaking at a recent event covered by GoldMyne TV, the artiste expressed concern over what he described as a lack of visible progress despite years of strong religious devotion across the country.

According to 9ice, Nigerians continue to rely heavily on prayers while key issues such as insecurity and economic hardship persist.

Describing himself as a heathen, the singer criticised the widespread embrace of religions like Christianity and Islam, which he referred to as foreign, arguing that they have not translated into meaningful national growth.

He also compared Nigeria to the United Kingdom, suggesting that societies with lower levels of religious observance tend to experience greater prosperity.

“You will leave Nigeria and go to Mecca to go and lick the rock all in the name of the Kaaba. Ever since you have been calling on Allah and Jesus, this country hasn’t gotten any better. If you go to London, nobody goes to church there yet they are better than Nigeria,” he said.

9ice further criticised what he sees as an over-dependence on prayer for issues that require practical solutions.

“They go to work on Sundays but Nigerians go to church. A lot of Nigerians spend most of their time in church in the name of weekly services. They pray over everything, including things they should fix themselves,” he added.

His remarks have sparked debate online, with many Nigerians divided over his views, some agreeing that excessive reliance on religion may hinder progress, while others argue that faith remains a vital part of society and personal life.
