“I’m a very stubborn politician, I just refuse to go” — President Bola Tinubu Declares Second Term Bid Amid Security Pressure

President Bola Tinubu has made his 2027 ambition unmistakably clear, declaring that worsening insecurity across parts of Nigeria will not force him out of office as he confirmed plans to seek a second term.

Speaking during a meeting at the Presidential Villa while receiving Caleb Mutfwang and stakeholders from Plateau State, Tinubu pushed back against critics who link the country’s security troubles to his administration, suggesting that opponents were weaponizing such narratives to undermine his government.

In a characteristically blunt remark, the President dismissed suggestions that rising insecurity could weaken his political future.

“I’m a very stubborn politician. I just refuse to go. And I will campaign for my second term,” Tinubu said.

He went further, alleging that some actors were attempting to exploit the security crisis for political ends.

“You are playing to the hand of agents, including my own enemies, who want to use insecurity to get rid of me,” he added.

The declaration has stirred fresh political conversations, especially as it amounts to one of Tinubu’s clearest public confirmations yet that he intends to return to the ballot.

His comments come at a time of heightened concern over insurgent attacks and violence in parts of Northern Nigeria, particularly in the North Central, where communities in Plateau have continued to face recurring security threats.

Tinubu’s remarks also signal that, despite mounting criticism over the country’s security challenges, he is positioning himself not as a leader under pressure but as one prepared to fight politically for another mandate.

Political observers say the statement could shape early conversations around the 2027 elections, with supporters likely to interpret it as a show of confidence, while critics may see it as a defiant response to growing public frustration.

For now, one message appears clear from the President: he is not backing down.
