Nigerian music star Davido has publicly criticized Nigeria’s ambassador-designate to Mexico, Reno Omokri, following comments he made about the delay in activating his diplomatic posting.
Omokri had earlier addressed speculation about his ambassadorship, stating that Mexico had not rejected his appointment and that the delay was largely due to the country’s focus on hosting the ongoing FIFA World Cup alongside the United States.
According to him, the demands of the tournament had slowed certain diplomatic processes.
“Mexico has not rejected me, they are focusing on the World Cup right now,” Omokri said.
His remarks came months after he had criticised Davido over the singer’s involvement at the FIFA World Cup opening ceremony, where the Afrobeats star used the global stage to draw attention to the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State, calling for their safe return.
Revisiting that earlier criticism, Davido reacted strongly on social media, taking a direct swipe at Omokri.
“UMU BINGO @renoomokri fowl,” the singer wrote.
Davido’s brief but sharp response quickly gained attention online, with fans and critics reacting to the renewed tension between the two public figures.
The exchange is the latest chapter in a growing public disagreement between Davido and Omokri, who have previously clashed over political and social issues.
While supporters of the singer defended his right to speak on humanitarian matters, others argued that public figures should be mindful of how they use international platforms.
