One of East Africa’s most-watched celebrity relationships is officially over. Zuchu announced her separation from Diamond Platnumz on Sunday, July 12, in an emotional Instagram Story that left little room for ambiguity.
Less than thirteen months after the couple formalised their union in a private ceremony in June 2025, the marriage has collapsed.
“Hello my GPG. My former partner and I are now separated and going through a divorce. I announce this with a heavy heart. After six years of being together, I have finally decided to choose myself,” Zuchu wrote, addressing her fanbase directly before offering Diamond and his family her well wishes.
Her statement was measured but final. She did not assign blame or spell out what went wrong, offering only a line that was both graceful and heavy with what it left unsaid: “We tried, but Allah has His own plans, and I have no choice but to accept them.” She added that she would be using the period ahead to heal, focus on her health, and pour herself back into her career.
The timing of the announcement adds its own layer of significance. It came just hours after Zuchu was conspicuously absent from Diamond’s mother’s birthday celebration on Saturday, an absence that had already set social media buzzing before her statement arrived.
It also landed amid circulating rumours, sparked by comments from a close associate of Diamond, that Zuchu was pregnant. However, she did not refer to those claims in her post.
To understand what this split means beyond the headlines, it helps to understand how deeply intertwined this relationship always was. Zuchu, born Zuhura Othman Soud and daughter of legendary taarab singer Khadija Kopa, joined Diamond’s WCB Wasafi record label in 2020 after an audition arranged through her mother impressed him, leading to her signing on the spot.
Her debut single Wana immediately announced her, and a string of hits, including Sukari, Cheche, and Honey, cemented her as one of Bongo Flava’s biggest female voices.
Through all of it, her personal and professional life remained bound to the same man. The end of the marriage doesn’t just close a personal chapter; it raises very real questions about what her relationship with the label looks like going forward.
Diamond, whose full name is Naseeb Abdul Juma, had not publicly responded to Zuchu’s statement at the time of publication. His silence was notable given that he is rarely quiet on social media, and his absence from the conversation only deepened speculation about what the full picture looks like behind closed doors.
One voice that did weigh in was Zari Hassan, Diamond’s former long-term partner and mother of two of his children. Their own relationship ended over his repeated infidelity, a pattern she documented publicly and which made her one of the most vocal critics of his behaviour over the years.
Her response to Zuchu’s announcement was brief but pointed, applauding the singer for what she described as the singer’s ability to cope with what she had once endured as well.
Whether this separation is truly final or the latest in what has been a long history of the couple breaking up and finding their way back together, as they did as recently as November 2024, is a question only time will answer.
