Jessie J Confirms Split From Chanan Colman After Five Years Together

Jessie J has confirmed that her relationship with basketball player Chanan Colman is over, revealing in a joint Instagram statement on Monday that the couple quietly ended things some time ago and have since been focused on building a healthy co-parenting arrangement for their three-year-old son, Sky.

The announcement came alongside a black-and-white photograph of Jessie, Colman, and Sky, a deliberate choice that made clear where both of their priorities now sit.

“It has been a sad and difficult situation, but we have been focused on navigating the change privately and positively,” the 38-year-old singer wrote, adding that going public was the only way to get ahead of rumours and ensure the truth was told in their own words rather than through speculation.

The two had been together for roughly five years. Jessie, born Jessica Cornish, had been characteristically private about the relationship for much of its early stages, only going public in 2023 around the time she gave birth to Sky in May of that year.

At the time, she described Colman, a 42-year-old retired professional basketball player, as the calm to her crazy, and there was a warmth to how she spoke about him that made the relationship feel like solid ground after a turbulent few years personally.

That turbulence included the on-and-off relationship with actor Channing Tatum, which ended for good in 2020 after two separate stints together. Fans have since been reading Jessie’s recent music for clues, particularly her latest release Threw It Away, which some believe is directed at Tatum rather than Colman.

The timing of this announcement, coming as that song was circulating, may partly explain why she chose to speak now rather than later.

The year leading up to the split also brought significant personal challenges. In June 2025, Jessie revealed she had been diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer and underwent a mastectomy.

By May 2026, she announced she had been declared cancer-free, sharing the news in an emotional video that showed just how much the past twelve months had asked of her physically and emotionally.

Navigating a relationship breakdown quietly in the background of all that adds another layer to what she described as a sad and difficult situation.

Despite everything, the tone of both their statements was notably measured. There was no blame assigned, no cryptic language, and no dramatic unfollowing.

Jessie was direct about their intention to remain in each other’s lives as friends and as Sky’s parents, adding that if people spot them out together or posting each other on social media, that’s exactly what it is: two people raising a child with a positive friendship as the foundation.

It is, by most standards, one of the more dignified public breakup announcements the internet has seen in a while. Whether it stays that way as the days unfold remains to be seen, but for now, Jessie J has done what she set out to do: told her own story, on her own terms, before anyone else could write it for her.
