One of Love Island USA season 7’s most followed couples has called it quits. Olandria Carthen and Nic Vansteenberghe have ended their relationship after roughly a year together, People magazine confirmed through a source close to the pair. The two are said to remain friends and plan to stay in each other’s lives despite the split.
The news didn’t arrive completely out of nowhere. Speculation had been building after Olandria sat down with Cosmopolitan and gave an interview that, in hindsight, read more like someone setting boundaries around a relationship she was already navigating differently.
She pushed back against the intensity of public interest in her love life in a way that felt personal rather than general. “Why does it matter if me and Nic are together? Even when we were at Coachella, people in the comments were like, ‘Oh, I just needed proof that they saw each other this week.’
Why are you so invested in people that don’t know you?” she said, adding that she refuses to live for the internet or post what people expect her to post.
At the time, the comments read as frustration with parasocial culture, which they were. They also turned out to be something of a preview.
Both of them have used the platform the show gave them well. Olandria has locked in brand partnerships with Barbie, Poppi, and Brandon Blackwood since leaving the villa, and signed with United Talent Agency earlier this year, a significant step that signals she is building something with real runway.
Nic has continued developing his DJ career, booking gigs steadily and growing an audience that extends well beyond the Love Island fanbase that first found him.
The relationship may be over, but neither career is. For two people who met on a reality show and managed to turn it into something lasting on their own terms, that is probably the more important headline.
