Just IN: APC postpones presidential convention to June 6-8

The ruling All Progressives Congress APC has formally postponed its presidential convention following the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC’s six-day postponement of the June 3 deadline for the holding of political party primaries.

This was revealed in a statement signed by its spokesman, Felix Morka, and released in the early hours of Saturday.

“Following the extension of the deadline for political parties to submit lists of candidates by the Independent National Electoral Commission, the All Progressives Congress (APC) hereby postpones its Special Convention for Presidential Primary from Sunday, May 29th – Monday, May 30th, 2020 to Monday, June 6th – Wednesday, June 8th, 2022,” he said.

The ruling party had tweaked its primary election schedule several times and pressed INEC to extend the deadline.

After weeks of defying the pressure, the electoral umpire gave in to several political parties’ demands to extend the deadline on Friday evening.
