Ikuforiji Olaitan Abdulrahman aka Oxlade, a prominent Nigerian musician, has described how Wizkid’s career advice has helped him so far.
Oxlade, who lives in the same Surulere neighborhood as Wizkid, revealed in an interview with Kiss FM UK that the pioneer of afrobeat had instructed him to study his musical style, borrow some elements from it, expand his brand, and create his own narrative.
He also revealed that the “Starboy” singer does not want him to make the same mistakes he did.
Furthermore, Oxlade claimed that Wizkid and other OGs provided opportunities for younger afrobeat artists to succeed.
The singer said that he simply had fun on stage with Wizkid during their recent performance at the 21,000-seat Accor arena in Paris, France.
Nigerian singer and songwriter Ikuforiji Olaitan Abdulrahman, better known by his stage name Oxlade, is a member of Troniq Music, Epic Records in France, and Fuenlabrada Records in the UK. With the release of “Away,” one of Rolling Stone’s 50 top songs of 2020, he gained notoriety. In July 2022, Oxlade was selected as the inaugural Pandora Africa’s Next Artist.
