Early Life

Adebowale David Ibrahim Adedayo aka Mr Macaroni (born May 3, 1993), an Ogun State native, was born in Ogudu, Lagos, into an upper-middle-class, Islamic and Christian family. He grew up in Lagos’ Magodo neighborhood.

Education

He went to Tendercare International Nursery and Primary School in Ojota, Ogudu, and is now a student at Magodo, Isheri. He attended Babcock University High School for secondary schooling after finishing primary school. He was admitted to Lead University, Ibadan, in 2009, where he studied law. However, he was forced to quit during his second year due to the university’s accreditation issues.

By 2011, Mr Macaroni was a law student at Houdegbe North American University in Cotonou, Republic of Benin. Still, he was forced to quit before completing his degrees because of his outspoken attitude and advocacy for justice.

After leaving Cotonou, Debo decided to pursue his acting profession rather than continue his education. He appeared in a few films and sitcoms, but his parents encouraged him to finish school. This time, he pursued Theatre Arts (his self-proclaimed first love). He was accepted to a course at Afe Babalola University in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti. However, several events contributed to his failure to complete his schooling. Debo was admitted to Redeemer’s University Nigeria, Osun State, in 2013 and graduated with a Theatre Arts and Film Studies degree in 2018.

Career

Adedayo began his career as an actor in Nollywood before making comedic videos. He told Punch Nigeria that he had been an actor for a long time, appearing in films and soap operas. However, he stated that movie roles stopped coming at some point, and it took him a while to decide to start doing online comedy.

Adedayo’s comedy addresses current events and real-world challenges in Africa. He always pretends to be a sugar daddy. He told the Nigerian Tribune that he picked the role of a sugar daddy because it reflects a good percentage of immoral males who can’t control themselves.

His satirical sketches raise awareness of social and political issues such as poor government, civic responsibility, and human rights.

Personal Life

Mr Macaroni is not married and engaged, despite rumors that he married Mummy Wa, also known as Kemz Mama, which he rejected. He stated that he fears being in a relationship since he despises hurting others and does not want to hurt himself. Mr Macaroni has indicated that he has no plans to marry soon. He announced this during a Q&A session on his Twitter account.

Speaking on what it feels like playing a wife to Debo Adeniran aka Mr Macaroni, Ikuseedun said that even though there’s nothing romantic between both of them, it feels great acting with him.

End SARS Protest

Mr Macaroni has been involved in the End SARS campaign. During the #OccupyLekkiTollgate demonstration on Saturday, February 13, 2021, police apprehended him at Lekki Toll Gate.

Adedayo continued contributing his platform to the protests and became one of the primary faces of the #EndSARS movement after holding a sleep-in at the state house in Alausa alongside Rinu Oduala and a group of protestors on October 8, 2020.

When the government announced plans to reinstate tolling at the toll gate in February 2021, the #OccupyLekkiTollGate movement erupted again. Adedayo and other protesters were arrested and brutalized by Nigerian police until public outrage prompted their release.

He was then apprehended alongside 49 other protestors and arrested for breaching a Lagos State injunction prohibiting protests. The protesters have already been granted N100,000 bail apiece and charged with violating the COVID-19 protocol on public meetings and “breaking an order not to protest.”

On the first anniversary of the Lekki massacre in October 2021, important #EndSARS figures such as Debo, Folarin “Falz” Falana, and others organized a successful drive-by event at the toll gate in commemoration of the massacre victims.
