Otunba Gbenga Daniel, a former governor of Ogun State, has informed the current governor, Dapo Abiodun, that the payment of his pension as a previous governor of the state will be suspended.
Gbenga Daniel claimed that upon his inauguration as a senator for the 10th Senate, he made the decision to inform the Governor. Senator Daniel is the senator who represents Ogun East in the Senate.
Senator Daniel requested Mr. Abiodun immediately halt the gross monthly payment of N676,376.95kobo for his pension and benefits as the former governor of Ogun State on his verified Twitter account. He claimed that he made the choice in accordance with his moral values and guiding ethics.
The announcement of Senator Gbenga Daniel quickly generated mixed reactions among some Nigerians on Twitter. While some applauded him for taking that decision, others wondered why he only asked for suspension and not total forfeiture.
