Antoine Griezmann, France’s 2018 World Cup winner, has announced his retirement from international football following a ten-year stint with Les Bleus.
The 33-year-old Atletico Madrid forward announced his decision on X, saying, “It is with a heart full of memories that I am closing this chapter in my life.”
Griezmann made his France debut in 2014 and has 137 caps, third behind Hugo Lloris (145) and Lilian Thuram (142). He is also fourth on France’s all-time goal-scoring list, with 44 goals.
Griezmann’s last appearance for France came in a UEFA Nations League victory against Belgium earlier this month.
His retirement follows those of fellow French legends Hugo Lloris, Raphael Varane, and Olivier Giroud, signaling the end of an era for Les Bleus.
Coach Didier Deschamps will announce his next France squad on Thursday ahead of Nations League matches against Israel and Belgium.
