Britney Spears has refuted claims that her biopic is in the works, stating instead that she is working on a “fictional musical”.
Reports of a biopic based on her memoir, The Woman In Me, with producer Marc Platt and director Jon Chu had been circulating since early August.
However, Britney Spears has clarified that the project is not a biopic but a musical story.
She teased that she will be portraying an “extremely intelligent character” in the film, with Jon Chu also on board.
“Excited to share with my fans that I’ve been working on a secret project with #MarcPlatt,” she wrote on social media at the time. “He’s always made my favourite movies … stay tuned.”
The Woman In Me has been a bestseller, selling over 2.5 million copies in the US alone, and the audiobook narrated by Michelle Williams has broken records for publisher Simon & Schuster.
The details of the musical project have yet to be revealed.
