Frank Lampard is set to become Coventry City’s new manager, with an official announcement due shortly.

According to talkSPORT, the former Chelsea and Everton manager is expected to take charge of the Sky Blues in time for Saturday’s home game against Cardiff City.

Lampard, 46, has been in advanced talks with Coventry since last week, making his comeback to manager after leaving his interim job at Chelsea in May 2023.

His appointment comes after the dismissal of Mark Robins, Coventry’s longest-serving manager, who led the team to consecutive excellent finishes but left after a difficult start to the season.

Coventry, currently 17th in the Championship, faces high expectations under Lampard, who previously guided Derby County to the 2019 play-off final.

Despite falling short of Premier League promotion, his success at Derby remains a highlight of his managerial career.

Owner Doug King had earlier confirmed Lampard’s candidacy, noting, “Frank is one of many high-quality candidates we’ve considered.”

Meanwhile, Ruud van Nistelrooy, another applicant, is reportedly a contender for Leicester City’s vacant managerial role.
