Activist lawyer Dele Farotimi has been released after meeting his bail conditions, according to activist politician Omoyele Sowore.
Farotimi is heading back to his home in Lagos, as confirmed by Sowore in a post on X. He is no longer at the prison in Ekiti State where he was previously held.
He wrote: “I am pleased to report that Dele Farotimi is no longer being held at the prison yards in Ekiti state and is now returning home to Lagos. The struggle continues!”
A Chief Magistrate Court in Ado Ekiti recently granted Farotimi bail in the amount of N30 million. He had been arrested earlier for allegedly defaming Afe Babalola, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and founder of ABUAD. Farotimi had been remanded in a correctional center in Ado Ekiti before his release.
Amid heavy security presence, Farotimi arrived at the Magistrate Court premises on Friday morning around 9:45 am.
