Madonna has strongly criticized U.S. President Donald Trump for proclaiming himself a “king”.
The pop icon called out the White House for sharing a fake Time magazine cover depicting Trump wearing a crown, sparking backlash from many who saw it as inappropriate.
The image was accompanied by the words, “Long live the king.”
The post was shared shortly after Trump’s administration ordered New York to end congestion pricing. It included the caption, “CONGESTION PRICING IS DEAD. Manhattan, and all of New York, is SAVED. LONG LIVE THE KING!’ – President Donald J. Trump.”
Taking to her Instagram Stories, Madonna reminded her followers of America’s history of fighting against monarchies and striving for self-government after breaking away from British rule.

“I thought this country was built by Europeans, escaping living under the rule of a King, to establish a New World governed by the people,” Madonna wrote. “Currently, we have a president who calls himself our King. If this is a joke, I’m not laughing.”
The Material Girl hitmaker’s comments come weeks after she slammed Trump after he issued an executive order to eliminate diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) positions in government departments and agencies.
“It’s so sad to watch our new Government slowly dismantling all the Freedoms we have been fighting for and WON over the years,” the singer wrote on X last month. “Don’t give up the Fight!”
