Manchester United captain, Bruno Fernandes, has explained why he turned down offers to leave Old Trafford last summer. Despite interest from other clubs, Fernandes spoke with the club’s hierarchy and former manager, Erik ten Hag, to clarify his future.
He wanted assurance that he was part of the club’s long-term plans, and after being told he was a key figure in their rebuild, he chose to stay at Manchester United.
“I just asked if they still see me as a part of the future of the club or not. I spoke at the time with (Erik) Ten hag also.
“He was very clear with me, the club was very clear with me, that they thought I would be a big part of this rebuild. I thought that we could be successful.”
Fernandes has been instrumental for the team this season, most recently leading them to a 4-1 victory over Real Sociedad in the second leg of the UEL Round of 16 with a hat-trick. Thanks to his performance, the Red Devils advanced to the UEL quarterfinals with a 5-2 aggregate score.
