John Legend’s “Used to Love U” takes on new meaning as the EGOT-winning superstar finds himself in yet another public clash with former mentor Kanye West.
West has dominated headlines throughout the year with a string of controversial social media rants, including anti-Semitic, homophobic, and sexist remarks.

His latest outburst, however, targeted some of his closest former allies, including JAY-Z, Kim Kardashian, Beyoncé, and John Legend.
During an explosive interview with DJ Akademiks, Kanye—wearing Ku Klux Klan (KKK)-inspired garb—blasted multiple industry figures, but his comments about Legend were particularly scathing.

“Look at John Legend’s sissy a–. I never did anything wrong to that n—a. I changed generations of his life, and they got that fa–ot a–, hot sweater n—a come up and…”
West continued his bizarre attack, mocking Legend’s fashion choices and even making crude remarks about his personal hygiene.
Legend, however, remained unbothered, responding during an appearance on Drink Champs:
“It disturbs me, some of the things he says. I’m not as disturbed for me… I didn’t take it personally.”
Despite the ongoing tension, Legend still acknowledged Kanye’s impact on music:
“It’s sad. I don’t love seeing [the rants]. I still look at him as one of the most important artists we’ve ever had… It’s a shame that [his legacy] gets clouded by all the other sh-t.”
