“Strongly advise against spraying any currency” – Iyabo Ojo Confirms EFCC Visit After Daughter Priscilla’s Viral Wedding

I was young when I fell out of my marriage, if I was this wiser, it wouldn’t end that way – Iyabo Ojo

Popular Nollywood actress and filmmaker Iyabo Ojo has addressed the swirling rumors surrounding her invitation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), following her daughter Priscilla Ojo’s glamorous wedding celebration.

The traditional white wedding, held in April 2025 in Lagos, drew high-profile guests from across Nigeria and even Tanzania.

Videos from the event quickly went viral, with scenes of celebrities spraying bundles of naira and foreign currency, sparking public debate and legal scrutiny.

In a detailed statement shared via Instagram, Iyabo Ojo confirmed the EFCC officially invited her while she was abroad.

Upon returning to Nigeria, she honoured the invitation and appeared before the commission on May 5, 2025.

“I was asked several questions relating to my personal bio data, career, work experience, and companies, amongst others,” she wrote.

She also revealed that EFCC officials showed her video clips from the wedding where guests were seen spraying both naira and foreign currencies, including U.S. dollars.

Iyabo expressed surprise when told by EFCC officials that spraying money — even without mutilating or stepping on it — is considered a violation of Nigerian law.

“I thought only abuse or mutilation of the naira was an offense,” she admitted, adding that officials clarified the act of spraying any currency, even respectfully, is not permitted.

Although she was released the same day after questioning, her legal representative, Barrister O.I. Salami, was asked to stand in for her in case of future proceedings.

Iyabo Ojo concluded her statement with a strong piece of advice:

“Given this experience, I strongly advise against spraying any currency in Nigeria to avoid issues with the EFCC. Perhaps it’s time to reconsider this long-standing tradition.”
