The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has officially launched a new digital service known as NIN Authentication (NIN Auth) — a fast, secure, and modern method to verify the National Identification Number (NIN).
In a statement issued by Kayode Adegoke, Head of Corporate Communications, on Tuesday in Lagos, the commission explained that the platform is part of the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts to modernize identity management.
“This supports President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to improve how identities are managed in the country,” Adegoke said.
What is NIN Auth?
According to the official website — https://ninauth.nimc.gov.ng — NIN Auth simplifies the way Nigerians share and verify their identity. It acts as a digital extension of your NIN, making identity verification easier than ever before.
NIN Auth supports:
-
Web and Mobile App Integration
-
API Access for Developers
-
Decentralized Identifiers (DID)
-
Verifiable Credentials (VC)
This means users can share their identity securely and paperlessly, without repeatedly filling out forms.
Government Agencies to Use NIN Auth for ID Checks
The Federal Government has already directed all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to adopt NIN Auth for official identity verification processes.
This includes:
-
Passport issuance and immigration
-
Driver’s license applications
-
Government job recruitment
-
Bank and telecom services
Data Privacy and Security Guaranteed
NIMC assures Nigerians that data privacy and protection are central to NIN Auth. Personal details are encrypted and managed securely in compliance with national data protection laws.
“With NIN Auth, your NIN becomes portable, reusable, and universally accepted. No paperwork. No repetition. Just smooth, modern identity sharing,” the commission said.
