Controversial Nigerian rapper Tochukwu Ojogwu, popularly known as Odumodublvck, has hailed himself as a trailblazer in Nigerian hip-hop, claiming that his breakout 2023 hit “Declan Rice” is the most culturally impactful Nigerian rap song in global history.
Speaking during an interview on The Beat 99.9 FM, Lagos, the rapper addressed critics who often question his rap style and authenticity. According to him, most of the backlash stems from intimidation and envy, not objective analysis.
“If aspiring rappers try to sound like me, they often get discouraged by negative comments,” he said. “But I made ‘Good Devil Wells White’ with Larry G and I delivered an A1 verse. We’ve done verses in English, Vernacular, Patois—every language. But they want to talk down on me because they feel intimidated.”
Odumodublvck went further to assert that no Nigerian rap line in recent memory has had more cultural relevance than his contributions in the song Cast, and no hip-hop song from Nigeria has matched the global impact of Declan Rice.
“In the history of Nigerian hip-hop, no Nigerian song has had more impact in the world like Declan Rice. It is the biggest digital asset on Arsenal Football Club ever on social media. Check it.”
The rapper was referring to Arsenal’s July 2023 announcement of the signing of English midfielder Declan Rice, which featured his song as the soundtrack—a move that garnered massive online attention.
In a bold closing remark, he criticised the gatekeeping within the industry and lashed out at detractors:
“They said I’m not a rapper. That’s a fallacy. That’s ungrateful. And God will punish all of them.”
