Senate President Godswill Akpabio took to Instagram on Monday to celebrate his wife, Ekaette Unoma Godswill Akpabio, with a touching birthday message that praised her humanitarian efforts and enduring impact.
“HAPPY BIRTHDAY MY JEWEL!” Akpabio wrote, alongside elegant photos of his wife. The 62-year-old lawmaker described Ekaette as a woman of “humility in service” whose initiatives, including the Family Life Enhancement Initiative (FLEI) during her time as Akwa Ibom’s First Lady, brought smiles to thousands.
“Your love for fellow women, children, and the less privileged will continue to be celebrated,” he added, while commending her post-office outreach projects such as medical missions and building homes for widows.
Akpabio concluded the tribute by assuring his wife of his “love forever,” saying she remains a blessing to their family and to the people of Akwa Ibom North-West Senatorial District.
Public Praise Amid Legal Storm
The celebratory post comes at a time when Akpabio is embroiled in controversy over allegations made by suspended senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
Earlier this year, Natasha accused the Senate President of sexual harassment, citing alleged incidents in December 2023 both privately and during Senate proceedings.
The Senate dismissed her petition on technical grounds. It suspended her for six months, sparking backlash from human rights groups and public commentators who criticized the upper chamber for what they called an attempt to silence her.
While Akpabio has firmly denied the allegations, Natasha has since escalated the matter to international legal and human rights bodies.
