France captain Kylian Mbappé has brushed off comparisons to his former club Paris Saint-Germain, insisting that their UEFA Champions League triumph does not overshadow his debut season at Real Madrid.
In the lead-up to France’s UEFA Nations League third-place play-off, Mbappé addressed questions from journalists who suggested he had an underwhelming season at the Santiago Bernabéu, especially in light of PSG’s historic European victory just a year after his departure.
The 25-year-old forward, speaking to RMC Sport, rejected the narrative that his first campaign in Spain was a failure.
“A blank season? Are you sure? What’s an off-season? What’s a blank season? Do you watch the games? We won two titles.
That’s the importance of words. We missed out on some important titles. It’s been a rewarding year.”
Mbappé made it clear that PSG’s success doesn’t affect him personally, stating:
“PSG won the UCL without me — that doesn’t affect me. That’s a good thing.”
While Real Madrid fell short in La Liga and the Champions League, Mbappé still walked away with personal glory, winning both the European Golden Boot and the La Liga Pichichi, awarded to the top scorer.
He also celebrated victories with Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Intercontinental Cup, achievements he believes make his season far from blank.
As he prepares to lead Les Bleus, the message from Mbappé is clear: he’s not losing sleep over PSG’s silverware.
