Veteran journalist and publisher of Ovation International, Dele Momodu, has expressed deep disillusionment with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), admitting that he no longer believes in the party’s direction and strength.
Speaking during an interview on the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS) on Tuesday, Momodu lamented the internal crisis rocking the PDP, which he described as a major setback for the party’s chances against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
“My soul has left the PDP; it’s only my body that remains,” Momodu declared.
He emphasized that the opposition party’s deep-seated divisions, combined with external political pressures, have significantly weakened its ability to challenge the APC at the polls.
“If the PDP were united, it could defeat the APC in 2027. But too many forces within and outside are fighting against this,” he added.
Momodu’s remarks come amid a fresh wave of defections from the PDP to the APC, raising concerns about the future of Nigeria’s main opposition platform.
According to him, the APC’s current political strategy is aimed at further destabilising and dividing the PDP to eliminate any credible opposition ahead of the next elections.
“The ruling party’s strategy is to weaken the opposition,” Momodu concluded.
