Remi Tinubu, Nigeria’s First Lady and wife of President Bola Tinubu, has been conferred with the prestigious chieftaincy title of “Ugosimba 1 of Enugu” — a title which translates to “Jewel of Empowerment” in the Igbo language.
The honour was bestowed upon her by the traditional rulers of Enugu State during her recent two-day working visit to the South-East region.
The grand ceremony, which drew political figures, women’s organisations, community leaders, and members of the public, showcased Mrs. Tinubu’s remarkable contributions to women’s empowerment, social development, and the fight against poverty across Nigeria through her flagship project, the Renewed Hope Initiative.
“The chieftaincy title of Ugosimba is not just symbolic — it represents a recognition of real action,” the event organisers stated.
As part of her visit, Mrs Tinubu distributed professional kits to midwives across the South-East to bolster maternal healthcare services and support women in the health sector.
During her address, the First Lady called for national unity and security, urging Nigerians to rise above political differences for the collective progress of the nation.
“Nigeria is a beautiful country, and no one should feel restricted from visiting any part of it. We pray for improved security and a future where Nigeria will be a safe haven for all,” she remarked.
Mrs Tinubu also appealed to traditional rulers to amplify campaigns against cervical cancer, tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, and female genital mutilation, stressing that their influence at the grassroots level is vital for the success of these health initiatives.
“Regardless of party affiliations, we must all contribute to the growth and health of this nation,” she concluded.
