Paris Saint-Germain president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, couldn’t resist a subtle jab at Kylian Mbappe following the club’s first-ever UEFA Champions League victory — which came just a year after Mbappe’s departure to Real Madrid.
In a recent interview with Al-Kass Sport, Al-Khelaifi appeared to question the challenge level in La Liga compared to France’s Ligue 1, stating:
“It’s easier to score goals in La Liga than in Ligue 1.”
The remark is widely seen as a swipe at Mbappe, who joined Real Madrid in 2024 after becoming PSG’s all-time top scorer, racking up 256 goals and 108 assists in 308 appearances since 2018.
Al-Khelaifi also used the opportunity to silence critics who have long ridiculed Ligue 1 as a “farmer’s league.”
He praised manager Luis Enrique for leading PSG past Manchester City, Liverpool, Aston Villa, and Arsenal — all Premier League giants — en route to their maiden European crown.
“We proudly represented Ligue 1. No one gave us a chance to get this far, let alone win the title,” he added.
PSG’s win makes them only the second French club ever to lift Europe’s top prize, a feat that’s likely to redefine the narrative around French football and its global competitiveness.
