Tamar Braxton Reacts to Billboard’s R&B Singers List

K. Michelle Reignites Feud with Tamar Braxton, Threatens Physical Confrontation in Candid Interview

Billboard stirred major conversation on Juneteenth (June 19) after releasing its highly anticipated “Best R&B Singers of All Time” list in celebration of Black Music Month. The rankings, curated by Billboard staff, were based on a combination of industry achievements, vocal prowess, cultural influence, longevity, and overall impact.

While legendary names like Aretha Franklin, Michael Jackson, and Stevie Wonder secured spots in the Top 5, fans were left shocked by some glaring omissions.

Luther Vandross, Chris Brown, Brandy, Toni Braxton, and Anita Baker didn’t make the top 25, while Sade, Monica, and India.Arie were left off the list entirely.

The backlash was swift, and even celebrities began chiming in—Tamar Braxton being one of the loudest voices. A day before the final 10 names were revealed, the R&B songstress took to X (formerly Twitter) and wrote:

“…Billboard got that best singers of all times list WRONG if Kelly ain’t on there. Everyone have a blessed day.”

Fans were initially puzzled: Which Kelly? Was Tamar referring to R. Kelly (who landed at #9), or perhaps Kelly Price or Kelly Rowland, both of whom were snubbed entirely?

Once The Shade Room picked up her tweet, Tamar Braxton returned with a surprising clarification:

“…had you posted the tweet before, the church would know. Be blessed love. Don’t @ me. Kelly Clarkson is that throat.”

Social media exploded with confusion and debate. Many quickly reminded Tamar that the list was genre-specific, celebrating R&B artists—while Kelly Clarkson, though known for her powerhouse vocals, is primarily associated with pop and rock.

Despite the mix-up, Tamar Braxton stood firm, offering no retraction and making it clear she meant what she said.

As of now, Kelly Clarkson hasn’t responded to the unexpected compliment—but one thing is certain: Billboard’s list is still making waves, and Tamar Braxton’s tweet made sure of that.
